Milen Minkov, (born June 29, 1965) is a Bulgarian-Austrian pediatrician[1] and a professor of pediatrics at the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna, Austria.[2]
Early life and education[edit]
Minkov was born in Dalbok Dol, Bulgaria. He completed his primary education in Bulgaria, followed by two years of mandatory military service and one year of medical studies at the Medical University Pleven. He received a scholarship for the Russian State Medical University in Moscow, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1991.[3]
Career[edit]
Minkov began his medical career in the field of pediatrics,[4] initially focusing on Pediatric Hematology and Oncology during his residency at the Russian Federal Institute for Pediatric Hematology, Moscow.[5] He worked at St. Anna Children’s Hospital in Vienna, where he became involved in clinical practice and research.[6]
Minkov leads the LCH-Studies at St. Anna Children's Hospital, Vienna as a professor.[7] He runs a private practice that specializes in pediatric hematology and oncology in Strasshof an der Nordbahn, Lower Austria.[3] As a pediatrician, Minkov is recognized for his contributions to Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.[7] He is particularly noted for his pioneering work in the study and treatment of histiocytic disorders, especially Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH).[7]
Minkov served as the Chair of Special Pediatrics at Sigmund Freud University (SFU) in Vienna.[5] He was the Head of the International LCH Study Center at St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute.[8][9] He served as the President of the European Consortium for Histiocytosis (ECHO) [10] as well as the President of the Histiocyte Society [11] He is currently the physician at the pediatrics department of Klinik Floridsdorf in Vienna.[12][13]
Minkov has written book chapters and consensus papers and also published numerous peer-reviewed articles relating to his field of research in medical journals such as Pediatric Blood & Cancer and Haematologica.[14]

- 2012 - awarded the title of University Professor by the Medical University of Vienna[5]
- 2016 - Honorary professorship from the Federal State Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Immunology in Moscow.[5]
