William Orioha (born 3 March 1979), known professionally as 2Shotz, is a former Nigerian rapper and songwriter who is now a US-based photographer and filmmaker.[2] He won the award for Best Collaboration at The Headies 2006.[3]

His debut studio album Pirated Copy was released in 2004. It was supported by three singles: "Carry Am Go", "Odeshi" and "Delicious".[4] 2Shotz's second studio album Original Copy was released in 2005. In 2007, he released his third studio album Commercial Avenue. His fourth studio album Music Business was released in 2008. 2Shotz released I am William and Loud Silence as his fifth and sixth studio albums in 2010 and 2016, respectively.[5] He is a hip hop artist who sings in English, Pidgin and Igbo.[6]

Early life and education

2Shotz was born in Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria in a family of three. He is a native of Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. He went to Government College Umuahia for his secondary education. 2Shotz graduated with a degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from Lagos State University.[7]

Music career

2Shotz started singing as a hobby during his secondary school days, he decided to pursue music as a career before he went to the university. In 1999, he teamed up with 2Ply to start a group called Foremen. They joined eLDee's Trybesmen in 2000, where they released their first album, Men at Work, supported by a single titled, "For the Men". The group later disbanded in 2000 after releasing their album, forcing 2Shotz to go on solo with Trybe Records.[8] 2Shotz joined the group, The Trybe and they went on to record a hit song, "Oya" in 2001.[9] In 2005, he launched his personal record label, Umunnamu Music.[2][10] He joined Obi Asika's Storm Records label in 2006, which he later left to focus on his own label.[11] In 2016, he left music to pursue a career in photography and filmmaking, citing that he was never appreciated in Nigeria.[12][13]

Personal life

2Shotz met his girlfriend Precious Jones on Twitter and they got married at Ikoyi Marriage Registry on 12 April 2013.[14][15] They had a daughter Ariella Chidiebube Orioha, who was born in Ireland on 12 March 2015.[16] The couple separated on 3 December 2015 with Precious accusing 2Shotz of domestic violence.[17]
