Troy E. Black is the 19th and current Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps as of July 26, 2019.
Early life
Black is a native of Louisville, Kentucky.[1]
Military career
Black served as sergeant major of 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, in 2010, where he went on more than 50 missions. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for running through uncleared territory to rescue a fallen comrade hit by an IED.[2] He has also served as the sergeant major of the Officer Candidates School, the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and1st Marine Logistics Group.[3]
Awards and decorations
Legion of Merit with gold star, Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star and Combat Action Ribbon with two gold stars.[3]
