Footy2000 This is in regards to your revert of my edit in which I had corrected the number of cities with metro in India, actually there are 15 cities with operational metro
So while the cities are widely spaced, it is not clear if rolling stock of one city can be transferred to another in case of say a depot fire, or extra traffic due to say the Olympic Games.

Gauge and Power are fairly clear, and represent world standards, while other like loading gauge are hard for outsiders to know.

The table in Systems in Development shows Coimbatore metro has 147 kms under construction, but I don't think construction has started. If it has, the color has to be changed.
Too many images of Delhi metro here. please rectify it. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 12:29, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Edit: Removed the 147 km in u/c column for Coimbatore.

Since no one provided the reference for Coimbatore Metro and still no page exist for Coimbatore Metro, so removing it from the list as a cleanup. I also tried to find references but could not get any and infact found that there is plan for monorail in Coimbatore which is still not decided. 19:01, 13 January 2012 (UTC) <small><span class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashok4himself (talk • contribs)</small>

Are Sub-urban railways to be included in the list ?
Chennai Metro U/C and Planned details are wrong in the table
The giver citation does not support the U/C length given in the table (143.90 km) or the planned length (128 km).
This is with reference to the recent edits made by User:Secret of success adding Chennai Suburban railway to the list. From what I understand the general definition of rapid transit is mass transport systems that are grade separated from regular traffic, which suburban systems in India are not. If I am wrong and suburban systems in India qualify as Rapid transit, I request even the Mumbai locals, Kolkata suburban, Hyderabad MMTS be included in the list. If not a new article can be created titled Suburban railway systems in India. Thank You. <font face="tahoma"><span style="color:navy">WorLD8115</span> <font face="Gill Sans">(<span style="color:GOLDENROD">TalK</span>)</font></font> 14:35, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
* Just noticed there is already a page on suburban Suburban rail in India. So, a new page is not required. ::I did not notice that there was a separate article for the commuter rail. That article can accommodate the commuter rail in India better than this one. The Metrorail guy citation says U/C is 84 km and proposed is 15 km.
* In my opinion there should be separate third section for Sub-urban railways apart from metro rail and monorail, Chennai MRTS is not a metro rail but it is included in the list of metro rail. Ashok4himself (talk) 10:32, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

We should update these details in the table. Sadbarrett (talk) 18:36, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
** There is a separate thread for suburban rail systems, so it is not needed in this article. I'm not sure if to include Chennai MRTS, because it is grade separated from suburban traffic but does not use modern rolling stock, signalling (ATP/ATO), AFCs & other facilities similar to Delhi & Bangalore metros.<font face="tahoma"><span style="color:navy">WorLD8115</span> <font face="Gill Sans">(<span style="color:GOLDENROD">TalK</span>)</font></font> 11:21, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Replacing "locale" and "state" with "Metro Area"
The title of this article is "Rapid transit in India". Rapid transit is a type of high-capacity public transport generally found in urban areas according to its Wikipedia definition. Why is then Kundala Valley Railway and Patiala State Monorail Trainways which were used to transport goods included under Monorail section of this article? Simply because they had run on a monorail track? - <span style="font-family:Lucida Handwriting;color:green">Jayadevp</span><span style="font-family:Lucida Handwriting;color:red">13</span> 14:15, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
:They were evidently put there because someone thought they needed to be there. I don't think it is needed because they are old. Really old. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 06:41, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
::Moreover they are not even rapid transit systems. They were most probably added because they ran on monorail. - <span style="font-family:Lucida Handwriting;color:green">Jayadevp</span><span style="font-family:Lucida Handwriting;color:red">13</span> 07:13, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

both of these categories are redundant. Replacing them with "metro area" would combine the two. SKAG123 (talk) 22:56, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Gauge and Space
The following statement is really bunkam:

<textblock>
One exception is the Ahmedabad Metro, which will use Broad gauge, as there is more space available inside the coach.
</textblock>

The difference between 1435mm and 1676mm gauges is so small (241mm) that the maximum car width is not effected.

For example the old 1435mm gauge suburban trains in NSW were 3200mm wide (10' 6"), as wide as Indian Broad Gauge cars. Tabletop (talk) 09:42, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Skitube uses 1435mm gauge and has very wide cars of 3800mm (12' 6") wide. Tabletop (talk) 09:21, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
