Charles Jones II (June 21, 1998 – June 23, 2024), also known by his stage name Foolio or Julio Foolio, was an American rapper and gangster from Jacksonville, Florida.[1] He was shot and killed in a hotel parking lot in Tampa, Florida, on June 23, 2024.[1][2]

Jones was known for his songs that dissed rival gang members, dead and alive. Tracks like “When I See You Remix” and the remix of SpotemGottem’s “Beat Box” with friend and fellow rapper CoJack are the most notable. He would notoriously taunt rival Jacksonville rapper Yungeen Ace by mentioning the 2018 quadruple shooting in which Ace was the only survivor on numerous tracks.

Career[edit]

2015-2018: Earlier releases, gang war, and “Voo Doo”[edit]

In 2017, Foolio’s cousin, Zion Brown was shot and killed in his home.[3] This is believed to have started the deadly gang war in Jacksonville as just under a year later, Yungeen Ace and 3 others were targeted in a drive-by shooting, retaliation for Foolio’s cousin.[4]

On November 30, 2018 Foolio released one of his most popular tracks to date[citation needed], "Voo Doo".[5][better source needed]

2019-2021: Feuds, Shootings, rise to mainstream[edit]

In 2019, Foolio released a mixtape, “Never Wanted Fame”. Vulture stated that the mixtape “looks askance at that kind of careerism — it’s preoccupied with death and jail visits, ailing family members and creeping paranoia.“[6]

In 2023, a former security guard for rapper NBA Youngboy stated during an interview that his client had an incident where Florida rapper Foolio and his group pulled up on him.[7] According to Foolio in a 2021 DJ Vlad interview, people online leaked unreleased Youngboy tracks with the hashtag “#FOOLIODISS”.[8] 

“Damn, is he talking about me? I’m the only Foolio you know what I’m saying.”[8]

Foolio’s single “Play With Me” gained over 200,000 TikTok sound uses.[9]

Foolio was shot in July 2020 in Houston, Texas, and in November 2021 in Jacksonville, after which he stated, "I shot back in self-defense. My gun is registered."[10]

In 2021, Foolio appeared on Adin Ross’s Twitch livestream.[11]

2022-2024: Final Years, 2023 shooting[edit]

On July 15, 2022, Foolio released an album titled “Life Of Me”.[12]

On October 7, 2023, Foolio was ambushed and shot in the foot while driving in Jacksonville.[13]

Foolio released his last projects, two albums, “Final Destination” in 2023[14] and “Resurrection” in 2024.[15]

Death[edit]

In the early hours of June 23, 2024, Foolio was shot and killed at a Holiday Inn hotel while celebrating his birthday. He was trying to book a room after being asked to leave an Airbnb. At the hotel, Foolio and 3 others were ambushed, with everyone surviving but Foolio.[2][16]
